5 Ways to Achieve Enlightened Writing

Writing is the foundation of our world’s communication, history and art. From ancient cave paintings to modern day emails and blogging, writing has been essential in establishing the world as we know it. Today, writing remains one of the most important skills to master in academia and the professional world. We write to express emotion, to share news, to educate, and more. At Zebra Pen, we believe in the power of writing, and the impact it can have on our everyday lives. Let Zebra be your guide as you embark on your own path to Enlightened Writing. Use these methods to discover what Enlightened Writing means to you.

Find your Perfect Pen

Enlightened Writing begins with the proper writing instrument. To find the pen that best suits your needs, consult our wise spokes-animal, Zen. Zen will guide you through the various product lines Zebra has to offer. From the durability and sophistication of Steel to the smooth, Rapid Dry Ink Technology of Sarasa, Zebra has the perfect tool for everyone, from little hands to experienced wordsmiths. Once you select your ideal pens, make sure you keep them with you. You never when inspiration may strike.

Disconnect from Digital

Technology has vastly changed the way we communicate with one another, as well as the way we write. Train yourself to write for long periods of time without getting restless by disconnecting from the digital world and reconnecting with the real world. Taking a break from the instant updates of social media can allow writers, students and professionals alike to focus and truly become engulfed in the writing process. Putting your phone away while writing is an excellent way to minimize distractions and maintain flow as you write. Try to practice proper mechanics and grammar on paper without the added assistance of spellcheck.

Write Daily and Often

When learning how to play a sport, practice is an essential element. Practicing gives players the opportunity to mentally and physically prepare for games or matches. The same can be said for writing. Much like a sport or playing an instrument, learning to write efficiently requires practice, and finding your writing method requires time. Challenge yourself to write daily, whether it’s daily journal entries, poems, or letters to friends. Sometimes, the more you read, the better writer you become. Take time to read work by authors and writers you admire and start to emulate their techniques in your own writing.

Find a Zen Playlist

For some people, writing can be a daunting activity. Listening to music while writing or completing daily objectives can increase productivity, in addition to providing a much-needed mood boost. Music has been proven to limit stress and other negative emotions, allowing the listener to focus on the task at hand. Try listening to our Zen Spotify playlist, peaceful piano music, ambient music playlists, or any other genre you enjoy to relax before or during a project.

Establish a Positive Writing Environment

Writing in different environments can be an exciting way to boost creativity, especially if you suffer from writer’s block. Try to make places meant for relaxing (such as your bedroom or your couch) a work-free zone. Find a quiet coffee shop or a library to get work done or sit outside at a park or in your backyard for fresh air. Make sure that wherever you are, your work space is clean and free from clutter.

Zebra’s Guide to Bullet Journaling

With the new year right around the corner, it’s time to start reflecting on the past year and planning for the future. Set your goals, make your to-do lists, start a new journal or sketchbook, and jot down notes to keep you on track this year. A bullet journal is a convenient, all-in-one organization system that can be all of these things and more this new year!

Bullet journals have become increasingly more popular, especially on social media. If you’ve heard of bullet journaling but still aren’t certain exactly how or why to do it, you’re not alone! To help you understand bullet journaling, Zebra has created a guide so that you can start your bullet journal this year!

What Is Bullet Journaling?

It’s a planner, to-do list, journal, notepad, and sketchbook all in one! Include what you want and leave out what you don’t want, as they’re completely customizable! Most importantly, your bullet journal can be whatever you want it to be. It’s meant to be convenient and suiting to your needs, to better ensure that it’s a system you can stick to and enjoy!

Some bullet journals use symbols to represent different items on a list. For example a small star can show priority. A heart can symbolize a quote you enjoyed and jotted down. An “X” can represent a cancellation. Create a key for all of the symbols you choose so that you can remember what each symbol means, and after a while, when you open your journal you will be able to skim it for the symbol of the item you are looking for!

Color coding is another way some people choose to organize their bullet journals. For example, you can use a red pen or pencil to write down your school work. You can use green for social events, blue for personal events such as doctors appointments, and orange for errands. Sarasa Fineliners are perfect for color coding. With 12 vibrant and quick-drying colors to choose from color coding will be a breeze, not to mention a great way to organize your bullet journal by distinct activities! If you prefer sophisticated writing and trendy colors, Sarasa Grand Retractable Gel Pens might be the right color scheme for you! With navy, gold, and rose gold color barrels, your bullet journal can be fun and stylish.

Why Should I Have One?

To reflect, plan, get organized, or to set goals and stick to them, bullet journaling can help with all of this! Ring in 2018 with healthy and helpful habits and track them with your bullet journal. Each year, many of us set goals and find ourselves falling short of them as the months progress. A bullet journal is the perfect way to keep yourself in check all the while organizing and planning your schedule by the day, week, month, or year! You should start a bullet journal to get creative, have fun, and help yourself in 2018.

 Inspiration for your Bullet Journal

Day Summary: Jot down some notes about what you did each day. This can help you to be productive or keep track of fun memories.

Daily Peak and Pit (High and Low): Make a note of the high part and low part of your day to think positively and critically about how you spend your time each day.

Meal Planner: Sometimes meal prepping just isn’t an option; meal planning is a useful alternative. Write down meal and snack ideas to stay on track with your goals this year.

Spending and Savings Tracker: Keep track of the money you earn and the money you spend to stay on top of your saving. If you’re planning to make a big purchase soon, this could help you meet your goal.

Inspiration Page: Write down inspirational quotes, movies, books, websites, and more. When you’re feeling down, open your bullet journal to your inspiration page to brighten your day!

When it comes to bullet journaling, there is no right or wrong. With creativity and the right tools, anyone can create a bullet journal designed to enhance your day to day, and stay organized all year!

Zebra Pen U.S. Turns 35

EDISON, NJ ( AUGUST 27, 2017) – Zebra Pen Corp., a global leader in the writing and creative products industry, is celebrating Zebra Pen’s 35th birthday. Zebra Pen Corporation was founded in New York City in August 27, 1982. Though this was the beginning for Zebra Pen in the United States, its history started long before this date.

The parent company, Zebra Co. Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan has existed as a manufacturer of writing instruments since 1898 and has operated since then as a manufacturer of solely writing instruments. The company was founded by Mr. Tokumatsu Ishikawa to manufacture the traditional brush pen used in writing the Japanese language characters.

When Zebra Company expanded to the U.S. market, it took a much different path. Due to the size and the potential of the U.S. market, it was decided to establish an independent company to market and sell the Zebra line. From this, the company, Zebra Pen Corporation was born in 1982 and proudly carries on the long and humble history of commitment to innovation and quality, the hallmark of Zebra Company.

Since its founding, Zebra Pen has expanded very rapidly and effectively with a product line geared to the tastes and demands of the U.S. market. Zebra Pen Corporation offers a complete line of writing and creative instruments, all of which are guaranteed to provide quality and reliability.

In the 1970’s that Zebra Company achieved a major innovation with the perfection of the ballpoint pen – mechanical pencil combination known as the “Sharbo.” The introduction of the Sharbo established Zebra Company as a manufacturer and designer of state of the art instruments and as a company that would shape the future of writing instruments.

5 Ways to Start Off the Year Right

Every New Year’s Eve when that ball drops it’s always so hard to fathom that another year has come and gone. But each New Year is just like a clean slate allowing you to start fresh. Make 2017 the year that you make changes in your life that actually have meaning and allow you to lead a more positive and fulfilling lifestyle. Contrary to popular belief, there are some New Year’s resolutions that can be kept! Use this little guide as way to jump start your new year and the new you.

1. Organize your desk or living space

Living Space
You have no idea how much clutter affects you. It’s just another stressor added to your already hectic life. If you took a day to organize your desk at work or your messiest space at home, the weight you’ll feel lifted off your shoulders will be unimaginable. Organization is key to productivity. Give this tidying up trick a try and see how much more you will be able to accomplish when you know exactly where everything is. While you’re at it, pick up some shiny new pens for your desk or office like one of our Steel Series Pens, the F-402 or F-701, because now you’ll have found the perfect place to put them.

2. Take Up Meditation

Meditation does wonders for your mental and physical health. Our lives are so fast-paced that we often forget to take even the smallest increments of time for ourselves. Set aside some time each day, even if it is only 15 minutes, to relax, reflect, and meditate. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, take up a weekly yoga class. Another great way to relax is to color. Adult coloring makes you focus on the task at hand and shut out the world around you for a little while. Some adult coloring pages can be found here. Use our favorite coloring products to get started today: Sarasa Fineliner , Cadoozles Starters Colored Mechanical Pencils and Sarasa Gel Pens.fineliner

3. Say “Yes” More Often

Step out of your comfort zone! Be more open this year to new adventures and experiences. Agree to things that last year you never would have agreed to. Say “yes.” Getting out and trying new things is the perfect way to grow as a person—and just think of all the great stories you’ll have to tell.

4. Write Thank You Notes

The smallest tokens of gratitude often speak volumes. Handwritten thank you notes are the nicest way you can thank someone for a gift or a favor. They add just the right amount of a personal touch and show the person you are thanking just how much you care. Spice up your thank you notes with the Z-Grip Plus for supreme communications. This retractable ballpoint pen features easy-glide, low-viscosity ink and vibrant color for a smooth, bold writing experience.

5. Start a New Tradition

The New Year is the best time to establish a new tradition whether it is getting together with friends once a week for dinner or taking time to visit your family at least once a month or whatever your heart desires. Make your tradition meaningful and stick to it. You’ll be much happier for doing so.

Why does Zebra, a maker of pens and pencils love technology? Because it has changed all our lives for the better. Instant access to information – anywhere, anytime – is not just a need but an expectation. People carry a computer with them wherever they go, like smart phones and tablets.

But people also carry a pen at all times to jot down notes, sign documents, sketch or write a message.

Both are essential to everyday life.

So Zebra looked at the intersection of these two needs, and decided to create a tool that links them both, and the StylusPen was born

The StylusPen functions like an ordinary ballpoint pen for traditional writing needs, and can also be used as a stylus to navigate most screened devices. It changes from a pen to a stylus and back again with a simple motion.

Two-in-one function and value.

A Handwritten Letter is a Powerful Message

Some say writing a handwritten letter is memorable way to touch the people you love. Research says it can actually make you happier. Or maybe you have heard that it confirms the importance of a relationship, it helps you pause long enough to say things that matter or it’s a classy thing to do.

No matter what you’ve heard or what you believe, a well-written card can be some of the least expensive and most meaningful gifts you will ever give. With a few strokes of the pen, you have the power to encourage a loved one, thank a friend, or kindle a romance.

The hardest part is getting started, so let’s make it simple.

This holiday ask yourself these simple questions to get started: Who do you need to thank? Who do you appreciate most this week or this month? What friend or relative would be surprised to hear from you? Write that down right now. Now write down few thoughts that you want to add to the letter. Don’t worry about penmanship right now. Next, all you’ll need to do is find the right card, transcribe your message, slap on a stamp, and remind yourself to raise the little flag on your mailbox. It was made for a purpose. That was so easy!

Below is an infographic with a few facts on how we write.
