How to Make the Most of Your Experiences Using a Travel Journal

Traveling can be life-changing. Experiencing new places, people, and cultures may uncover a variety of different emotions and awakenings. Keeping a travel journal on hand is a perfect way to document your experiences.

When you are caught up in the chaos of traveling, it can be difficult to reflect on the sights and sounds of a new place. It’s important to continue journaling even after you return home. Revisit everything that happened during your vacation and devote time to writing in detail. Perhaps you are craving a meal that you had abroad, or you can’t stop thinking about a new place you visited.  Replicating those memories through drawing or creative writing will give you a keepsake you can treasure for years to come.

Be Consistent

The most important piece of advice for any kind of journaling that you are doing is to be consistent. If you don’t have enough time to write full journal entries each day, you can simply jot down some notes, thoughts, and important events each day. Make sure to date each entry, and write down what you ate, new things you did, people you met, and more.

Next, designate a time for journaling, either in the morning before you begin your day or at night before you go to sleep.

Use The Right Tools

Creativity is fueled by the right tools. Select the products that are right for you and take them along on your journey to aid your creative process and bring you daily catharsis.

If you enjoy the ink lay down of a gel pen, but crave a weighted, sophisticated body, our Sarasa Grand is the pen you will reach for while journaling each and everyday. The Sarasa Grand features the same Rapid Dry Ink Technology as our classic Sarasa Gel Retractable pens and won’t smudge or smear.

Zebra’s STEEL F-301 is an affordable, yet sophisticated pen that pairs perfectly with any pocket notebook. The STEEL F-301 is ideal for crossing off to-do lists, taking notes, and more.

The Zebra STEEL F-701 is an everyday carry essential that offers a premium writing experience. The all metal barrel is perfect for camping, hiking and more. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement about our STEEL F-701.

If you’re looking to get creative with your travel journal, turn to Zebra’s Zensations Technical Pens. Technical pens are perfect for sketching, and feature archival, acid free ink that won’t fade.

Although traveling is a great opportunity to start a journal, keep in mind that the impacts of traveling can last long after you return from your trip. In order to make the most of your experiences, utilize your travel journal each day so you can find your Zen in the art you create from the memories that will last a lifetime.

All About Zen

Hello, there. For those who do not know me, my name is Zen. In case you haven’t heard, I am the spokesanimal for Zebra Pen. In honor of my upcoming birthday, I would like to share some of my Zen wisdom with you. Settle in as I share my secrets, triumphs, and invaluable insights to help you find your Zen in your own life.

How did my journey with Zebra Pen begin, you ask? I will start from the beginning. My life began as any Grevy’s Zebra does. I grew up in the grasslands, dining on flowering grasses, wild legumes and other greenery under the guidance of my mother, Asana. As a colt, I enjoyed frolicking around the grass and exploring, celebrating the beautiful planet we all share.  As I grew up, I discovered the infinite magic of knowledge and writing, and my life has never been the same.

One of my favorite memories is the day I picked up my first pen. I held it, and felt as if I had the whole world in my hooves. I began relishing the writing experience, using every opportunity to express myself through the written word. Nothing changes a life more than education, as knowledge is our greatest gift.

My infinite wisdom began reaching the masses. I was discovered by Zebra Pen while working on my poetry manifesto, Serengeti Sonnets: Musings of a Striped Scholar. Zebra Pen was seeking a spokesanimal to represent their carefully crafted writing instruments, and I was seeking a platform to share my findings with the world. It was a match made in heaven.

Now, Zebra Pen’s mission has become my own. My objective is to help guide you on the path to Enlightened Writing. Remember, in order to finish, one must begin.

To find the path to Enlightened Writing, one must begin with the perfect instrument. That’s where I come in. Let me be your guide as you discover the right tools for each and every project.

Today, I enjoy expressing myself through various activities that bring me joy and inner peace, including yoga, writing short stories, bullet journaling, hand lettering, illustrating and more. Relaxation is a job I take very seriously, because when you are relaxed, you are free. Mindfulness is at the core of everything I do. They don’t call me Zen for nothing.

Zen is something much bigger than myself, as it is a way of life. Zen is a mindset, a lifestyle, and an ideology that is so simple, it’s difficult for one to comprehend or explain. Ultimately, zen is different for each person, but to put it simply, zen is the feeling of freedom and relaxation in the things that make you, well, you.

To find zen in writing, stress not, and let your ideas flow and become one with the paper. Allow yourself to become immersed in your writing process, free of distractions and the organized chaos of everyday life.

I will leave you with this: Always remember to never change your stripes, for they are what make you special.

Tips for Optimizing your Resume and Cover Letter

For college students, recent graduates and experienced professionals alike, a well-written resume and cover letter are essential elements when applying for a job or internship. When done correctly, a glowing resume and cover letter can be a great first impression for a potential employer, and an opportunity to showcase your unique skills and experiences. However, submitting a faulty resume can mean the difference between an interview and a rejection. According to Forbes, job recruiters can spend as little as six seconds scanning your resume before deciding if you’re right for the job. Before applying for your next job, use the tips below to optimize your resume and boost your cover letter.

Format Effectively

First impressions are important, especially when crafting a resume. A well-written resume is vital in any industry. Make sure that your resume does not exceed one page, and use a clean, organized template with consistent font size, making your resume easy to read and professional. Applying bold text to establish different sections helps guide the reader’s eye. Be sure to save your resume as a PDF file to ensure your resume maintains the same format on any computer.

Identify & Quantify your Accomplishments

Employers love problem solvers. You can’t provide solutions in a company without stating how you solved similar problems in other companies or situations. Stating how you solved a problem expresses your talent and grit. Focus on your primary objectives in each job on your resume by listing each responsibility as a separate bullet point. Then, find at least one accomplishment or solution you provided in that role. Accomplishments should be unique to you. Think of your resume as a marketing tool to market yourself. Sell your measurable skills and strengths, and quantify your achievements to ensure more confidence in the hiring manager. If you received any special awards in academics or the professional world, be sure to list them at the top of your resume.

Use Your Judgement

Submitting the same resume to every job you apply for can be detrimental to your job hunting process. Customize your resume and cover letter for each company and job title to prove you are a good fit. While most corporate employers prefer a traditional, clean resume, fields such as marketing, advertising and design may prefer to see your creative skills firsthand in your resume.

Express your Creativity

Cover letters are the perfect opportunity to express your individuality and truly tell a story. Use your creativity to showcase your personality, and share a unique experience that would make you perfect for the position you’re applying for. Your cover letter should not be simply a reiteration of your resume, but rather a snapshot of you who are as a person. A resume is a document that shows how you are qualified, and a cover letter shows why. Take advantage of your cover letter by elaborating on your strengths, skills, and traits you can offer to the company you wish to work for.

Revise, Revise, & Revise!

Once you have completed your resume and cover letter, it’s crucial to double check for any mistakes before sharing it with a future employer. Be sure to use proper tenses and avoid first person pronouns when discussing job tasks as they are common mistakes made by applicants. Print out multiple physical copies and share them with family and friends to proofread, or take your resume and cover letter to your university’s career center to receive edits if possible. Use colorful pens such as Sarasa gel pens to color code your changes.

5 Ways to Achieve Enlightened Writing

Writing is the foundation of our world’s communication, history and art. From ancient cave paintings to modern day emails and blogging, writing has been essential in establishing the world as we know it. Today, writing remains one of the most important skills to master in academia and the professional world. We write to express emotion, to share news, to educate, and more. At Zebra Pen, we believe in the power of writing, and the impact it can have on our everyday lives. Let Zebra be your guide as you embark on your own path to Enlightened Writing. Use these methods to discover what Enlightened Writing means to you.

Find your Perfect Pen

Enlightened Writing begins with the proper writing instrument. To find the pen that best suits your needs, consult our wise spokes-animal, Zen. Zen will guide you through the various product lines Zebra has to offer. From the durability and sophistication of Steel to the smooth, Rapid Dry Ink Technology of Sarasa, Zebra has the perfect tool for everyone, from little hands to experienced wordsmiths. Once you select your ideal pens, make sure you keep them with you. You never when inspiration may strike.

Disconnect from Digital

Technology has vastly changed the way we communicate with one another, as well as the way we write. Train yourself to write for long periods of time without getting restless by disconnecting from the digital world and reconnecting with the real world. Taking a break from the instant updates of social media can allow writers, students and professionals alike to focus and truly become engulfed in the writing process. Putting your phone away while writing is an excellent way to minimize distractions and maintain flow as you write. Try to practice proper mechanics and grammar on paper without the added assistance of spellcheck.

Write Daily and Often

When learning how to play a sport, practice is an essential element. Practicing gives players the opportunity to mentally and physically prepare for games or matches. The same can be said for writing. Much like a sport or playing an instrument, learning to write efficiently requires practice, and finding your writing method requires time. Challenge yourself to write daily, whether it’s daily journal entries, poems, or letters to friends. Sometimes, the more you read, the better writer you become. Take time to read work by authors and writers you admire and start to emulate their techniques in your own writing.

Find a Zen Playlist

For some people, writing can be a daunting activity. Listening to music while writing or completing daily objectives can increase productivity, in addition to providing a much-needed mood boost. Music has been proven to limit stress and other negative emotions, allowing the listener to focus on the task at hand. Try listening to our Zen Spotify playlist, peaceful piano music, ambient music playlists, or any other genre you enjoy to relax before or during a project.

Establish a Positive Writing Environment

Writing in different environments can be an exciting way to boost creativity, especially if you suffer from writer’s block. Try to make places meant for relaxing (such as your bedroom or your couch) a work-free zone. Find a quiet coffee shop or a library to get work done or sit outside at a park or in your backyard for fresh air. Make sure that wherever you are, your work space is clean and free from clutter.

Enlightened Writing: Love Letters

Finding enlightenment is not always an easy task with our busy, hectic day-to-day lives.  As winter is still sticking around for the foreseeable future, taking the time to snuggle up indoors for some relaxation might be just what you need.  Writing is a great way to wind down, relax, and work towards your own enlightenment.  While you relax and write, you should be reflecting positively on your life, past and present.  The more you write, the more likely you are to achieve a sense of enlightenment.  Work to make writing a daily practice in your life.

EnlightenedWriting2It’s no secret that Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching.  All of the pink and red hearts and candy that surround us at stores across the country serve as a reminder that the international holiday of love is upon us.  There are so many gifts that you could pick up for your significant other or loved ones.  Jewelry, chocolate, flowers…the list goes on.  But what about adding a little more of a personalized touch to your gift?  The perfect way to do that would be to handwrite a love letter.

Sometimes you may struggle to say out loud how you truly feel about someone or find it hard to tell someone how much they mean to you.  When in doubt, write it out.  Such a big part of finding enlightenment through writing is being able to express yourself without constraints and fears.  A love letter allows you the freedom to put all your deepest feelings down on paper.  Handwriting love letters make them all the more special and personal.

Another unique way to express your love for someone is through poetry.  Poetry can be straightforward or abstract, and still get your declaration of love across.  Use your creativity and write from the heart when drafting poems.  You don’t have to be the Bard or T.S. Eliot when it comes to poetry, but the special person in your life will appreciate the gesture more than you know.

At Zebra Pen, we want all of our customers to make strides on their way to achieving enlightenment, whether it is through writing or other aspects of their lives.  We know the first step to achieving enlightenment in writing is through your writing instrument, so we hope you always reach for your favorite Zebra Pen writing instrument when you write.

Use your writing to experience enlightenment and express your love for the people in your life.

Find Zen (and enlightenment) in your pen…Zebra Pen.
